24-09-2013

Last friday September 20th the Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) new built multi purpose deepwater construction vessel Aegir was christened in the Calandkanaal (NL). Peutz has been involved with noise and vibration assessments and an extensive wind tunnel measurement campaign.

The impressive vessel designed by Ulstein Sea of Solutions is 211 m long and 46 m wide and features an impressive selection of state-of the-art mission equipment. The dutch industry magazine 'Offshore Visie' features an in depth walk-around on the Aegir before it heads off to its first contract in the Gulf of Mexico.

Wind loads assessment

Peutz has been involved in the design stage of the vessel with noise and vibration assessments and an extensive wind tunnel measurement campaign on behalf of HMC to establish wind loads for several operational configurations of the vessel in order to calculate most accurate DP capability.

Helideck certification

Additionally an environmental conditions assessment for helideck certification was performed in the wind tunnel. Smoke visualisation tests and a full scope of helideck turbulence and hot gas plume measurements have been conducted in order to provide operational information for safe helicopter operations.
